This is a map to illustrate the unique border between Sweden and Finland on a small island in the Baltic Sea. The island has a history of diplomatic negotiations over how to administer it. The eventual solution was this border. Read the box on the map to find out more.
The base map and features were made with QGIS, but most of the work was done in Adobe Illustrator. There are layers of subtle offset paths around the coast. A grainy pattern was filled on the land of the island to give it the texture of the rough and rocky terrain. The inset map uses the primary colors of the flags of the respective countries.
